The Waza Noir collection by TOTO

The Waza Noir collection by TOTO features three cast iron lavatories
that explore the deep, rich hues of black with distinct forms
and textures. Truly Zen-inspired, Waza Noir fuses organic
curves and contours with shades of black. The colors, Matte
Black and Tuxedo, are inspired from the spectrum of black
inks called “Sumi,” that were used in traditional calligraphy
artwork. These inks were handcrafted using a time-honored
method of mixing water and a block of black pigment.

The new Waza Noir single-handle faucet with textured black
finish is a perfect understated complement to the Waza Noir
collection. Playing off of the black hues reflected in the lavatories,
the faucet also adds some dimensional balance to the
collection with its taller spout and simple handle.

• The self-rimming Waza Noir lavatory charts the contrast
of two very different shapes: a circle and a rectangle. Like
in the natural world, contrast often creates beauty, which
is illustrated in the varying shapes and the transition from
glossy to matte finish.
• The rectangle Waza Noir lavatory is anything but a simple
rectangular form, with cascading sides that create a soft
appearance. Inspired by traditional paper sculpting techniques,
the lavatory’s gentle slopes create gradients of
shadows and illuminations at the same time.
• A form within a form… flat and round, like the ripples remaining
after a water drop breaks the surface of a pool. The
Waza Noir vessel lavatory transforms a simple concept and
shape into a work of art, made even more striking by the
Matte Black finish.
